The ugly truth of the government favouring vested interest and its own kind


According to a most condemning article by local pressure group Médecins Inspirés (反對政府削減前線牙科醫生), the total disregard the government had for the welfare of the people of Hong Kong was laid bare:


    1)      The number of dentists in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) dedicated to the 7m population fell by 3% to 30 in the ten years to 2018 whilst the privileged class of civil servants saw their dentists increase by 78% to 289 in the same period;

    2)      The waiting time for the public is now of 50 months (not weeks!);

    3)      Reducing front line doctors’ numbers and turning the position into an admin post.



This is most disgusting given how long ago we have written about the dire situation in Hong Kong that is medical profiteering by the vested interest groups: 打破醫療寡頭壟斷,香江急需引進專才

In the above article, the writer stressed the urgent need of recruiting oversea medical talent to Hong Kong. The government instead rather spends trillions of dollars to pour concrete in the sea than see its citizens enjoy competitive, timely, and quality medical services. This is bordering on immorality by those in power.

Improving cycling experience in Singapore

隧道補貼分流 不如乾脆免收


政府在《施政報告》中提出隧道分流政策,相對於筆者早於2010年所提出的補貼提議(見:西隧加價無罪,政府袖手有失),新政可謂姍姍來遲,加上不敢大刀闊斧去解決問題之根本,大有搔不著癢處之嘆!

新提議中政府只小修小補地加紅隧及東隧收費,並補貼西隧15-20大元(表中粉紅色各列),不向解決整體交通效率的大方向出發,實是浪費時間、金錢及人力。

為了補貼西隧承諾的回報,其實政府大可將所有紅隧/東隧的收入作為西隧減費的資金:若在隧道整體需要自負盈虧的前提下,當紅/東隧收入多於西隧所需補貼,大可將西隧費減至免費,而紅隧東隧只收足夠補貼之最低水平即可,(如倒數第二行所示,實際數目可能不同,但理念一樣);如整體收入不足則在西隧費用最低的前提下收取紅隧/東隧所需補貼之費用(如最後一行所示)。

其實政府好應該將全港所有隧道減費至零(上表第一行藍色列),此舉對全市所有交通的暢順度必會帶來莫大裨益;況且大部分隧道皆落成運作甚久,所有收回成本的收費原因也早不再存在,繼續攔路打劫似乎太不合情理。未來只要把隧道開支與整體道路之維修及管理合併便可,如此大大減少市民之負擔及不便之政策,何樂而不為呢?

「攔路打劫」不合請理
況且將城市交通障礙(所有隧道收費站皆是也)除去,乃有利全民的措施,較諸亂灑金錢於各種不切實際的收買支持政策(如創科領域)實有天淵之別。希望特首在具體研究此政策時不妨擴大此一德政範圍,則每日上班上學的市民幸甚,全港司機幸甚,所有大小工商機構幸甚!
