Another draconian lockdown in HK; another over-reaction? 20200727

As the HK govt today announces the complete shutdown of on-premise dining at restaurants, among other severe measures of shutdown, another killer blow will no doubt land on the already failing economy, yet more jobs, and even lives.

Covid in context of other HK killers

At this point, perhaps it is opportune to ask our readers these questions:

How many HK deaths are linked to covid year to date?

A: If you were thinking hundreds, then how about 18 for an answer (to date)... compared to lower respiratory related deaths in 2018 at 72x of annualised covid death levels in the over-65 year old group, and 60x for the population at large. For an even more 'unfair' treatment, pneumonia deaths in 2018 were 369x annualised 2020 covid deaths, but did not get the VIP lockdown that we are enjoying today, see table below:

Does this not make one wonder why our city has not been locked down the whole year, every year?

How many covid deaths are in the sub-65 year group?

A: not 10s of them, not even in teens, but a mere FOUR. A clear conclusion should jump out at all sane reader from this figure: the very elderly are the genuine ones who need any protection, not the healthy, fit, and productive middle aged average human being! Extend the breakdown further still, one may ask:

How many covid deaths are there in the sub-45 age group?

A: We are now talking about the truly golden age of any human life. But lo and behold, 3.8 million Hongkongers in their prime are now treated like leppers and all but locked up because ONE of them died with a covid diagnosis (may not even be from that disease). The wholesale deprivation of freedom and education is all the more devastating when we go further down the age pyramid:

How many covid deaths are there in the sub-15 age group?

A: It is a gigantic NOUGHT. So, kids have been denied a full half year of education and proper play and development, while parents have lost work and sanity having to do the jobs of a carer, parent, and teacher, all while paying for school fees few have received refunds on.
For a easier view of the death profile by age group, here is an chart summarising our above discussions:

Note that this chart is in log scale, and does not portrait the skewed nature of the other death causes. The eye popping disproportionality becomes clear when the y-axis is presented in linear scale (red line and dotted line for covid disappears into the x-axis)

Enough ink has been spilt in our various updates/postings/quotations in recent months on this topic. So here we leave you with three more alternative voices to the non-mainstream narrative on this flu outbreak. Hopefully more people get to see the context of the issue at hand and make more rational decisions going forward, the damage is punitive enough already...

Blaylock: Face Masks Pose Serious Risks To The Healthy

Posted By: Russell Blaylock, MD May 11, 2020

Dr. Russell Blaylock warns that not only do face masks fail to protect the healthy from getting sick, but they also create serious health risks to the wearer. The bottom line is that if you are not sick, you should not wear a face mask. As businesses reopen, many are requiring shoppers and employees to wear a face mask. Costco, for instance, will not allow shoppers into the store without wearing a face mask. Many employers are requiring all employees to wear a face mask while at work. In some jurisdictions, all citizens must wear a face mask if they are outside of their own home.
